Alexandre Vaz (Alex Vaz) has been a professional guitarist, producer, singer & songwriter for more than 20 years. He was the guitarist for the biggest brazilian rapper, Marcelo D2, for ten years. With D2, Vaz has played in some of the largest and most prestigious music festivals in the world. Between 2004 and 2014, he has performed at Rock in Rio (the largest music festival in the world, which was broadcast to over 18 million people), Montreux Jazz festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, SWU, Lollapalooza, Roskilde, Nice Jazz Festival, Hollywood Bowl, F1 Rocks (Formula 1), Eurockeennes, Back to Black Festival (London), Live Earth Rio de Janeiro (a festival that was broadcast over television and the internet to an estimated 2 billion people worldwide), Brazilian day in New York (for an audience of 1 million people). He has played concerts in Brazil, Germany, Chile, Argentina, The United States, Switzerland, France, Denmark, the Netherlands, England, Ireland, France, Belgium, among other countries.
Vaz has performed or recorded alongside world famous musicians including Grammy Award winner Caetano Veloso and Jorge Ben Jor, Liminha (Mutantes), Seu Jorge, Will.I.Am, Aloe Blacc, Marcos Valle, Nando Reis, Frejat, Dado Villa-Lobos (Legião Urbana), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), Fernanda Abreu, Toni Garrido (Cidade Negra), Arnaldo Antunes, Alcione, Paulinho da Viola, Marisa Monte, Falcão (O Rappa), Beth Carvalho, Bebel Gilberto and many others. Alex Vaz was the guitarist for Marcelo D2’s album “A Arte do Barulho” (produced by Mario Caldato Jr), which was nominated for the Latin Grammy Award “Best Urban Song of the Year” in 2009. Vaz also played guitar for the DVD “Marcelo D2 Acústico MTV”, which won the Brazilian Multishow Music Award for “Best DVD” in 2005. Between 2004 and 2014, along with D2, Mr. Vaz recorded guitar for songs that won 8 Brazilian MTV Music Video Awards and were nominated for 19 Brazilian MTV Music Video Awards.
Vaz has composed songs with artists of different music genres such as Lulu Santos, Nando Reis, Fausto Fawcett, Kassin, Toni Garrido, Leoni, Fernanda Abreu, Thalma de Freitas and others. His song Luz e Breu with Bena Lobo was recorded by Milton Nascimento. He also recorded, produced and composed soundtracks for Brazilian television shows and theatrical productions, including popular TV series “As Canalhas”, “Copa Hotel”, and “Confissões de Adolescente” – one of the greatest commercial theatrical successes in Brazil which was seen by one million people over the course of its 10 year season.
Since 2014, Vaz has been living in New York City.
